5 Best Christmas Gifts for the Pup

Since our family is only a family of 3 (Aaron, myself, and Delilah the Dog), I am creating a gift list for her....OF COURSE!  She is actually incredibly excited to be blogged about.  She is laying under my desk loving every second of our "Momma/Baby" time together.

Anyway...we try not to spoil our little girl too much at the holidays for a few reasons.  First, being that she is the only grandchild (human or otherwise) on either side of our family, she does get more than a little spoiled by our family.  Secondly, she is our baby.  She gets spoiled 365 days of the year so I don't feel overly obligated to get her a lot of Christmas presents.

This year I helped Delilah write a letter to Santa (my mother in law) which included her Christmas list.  Below are the things that were both Momma and puppy approved.

5. Thunder Shirt

Delilah, like most dogs, does not like thunder or lightening.  It seems to be par for the course with her.  As a rescue, she is terrified of just about everything.  I didn't think there was anything we could do about it until someone mentioned Thunder Shirts.  This is something that we don't yet own so I can't speak to how effective it is, but their web pages says it works ruffly (he he he) 80% of the time.  They are supposed to provide constant and even pressure against the dog that helps to calm them.  It is a similar concept to swaddling an infant.  We have requested one from "Santa" (Nana) this year.  I will report back when we have personal experience.  They do come in fun colors.  The one Delilah picked out is the Thundershirt Sport in Fuchsia.

4. Candy Cane Shaped Rawhide Bone

Last year we were walking through Walmart or Target and saw this GIANT candy cane rawhide bone.  This thing was probably close to 30" long.  The only problem was it had some red dyed striping on the bone that made it look more like a candy cane.  We had carpet in our home so we decided against it since it could stain the carpet.  So we kept looking and eventually found one a little smaller (24") that didn't have the dyed portion.  Delilah loved it!  And we loved watching her try to carry it around the house.  That bone lasted her until about June.  I feel like that is worth the money.  Happy dog and not needing to purchase treats for 6 months.

3. Peanut Butter Bones

When we visited my in laws last Christmas they gave Delilah these peanut butter flavored bones that she went crazy for.  They are sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, oddly enough.  I have been searching the internet for the name of the brand, but am coming up empty.  They had them in multiple flavors: barbecue, chicken, pork, etc.  I wish I would have stocked up on them.  Delilah loves most treats but these bones were definitely her favorite.

2. Stuffed Animals

This was something we never expected from her.  I know a lot of dogs love to chew up stuffed animals.  My parent's dog was never interested in stuffed animals, so when we decided to see if our baby girl had any interest it was really just on a whim.  We purchased her a lamb chop squeekey stuffed animal from walmart.  When we brought it home she seemed to think that it was her puppy.  She wouldn't let you throw it.  She would carry it by the back of its neck as if she had birthed it.  Not once has she chewed on it.  The only time we hear it squeak is if we are playing with it and even then she isn't thrilled that we are squeezing it.  Even as I write this she is licking lamb chop to clean her.  Since the initial lamb chop purchase we have added to her stuffed animal collection and she treats just about every one like her baby.  Although, none have dethroned lamb chop.

1. Bark Box

This is something Delilah has been begging us for each Christmas and birthday since we got her.  Ok, so I've been wanting to get it for her.  If you're not familiar with Bark Box, it is just like any monthly subscription box, only geared toward your pup.  They have different memberships (1, 3, 6, 12 months).  What I like best is they ask you specifics about your dog's breed and size so they can provide items that would best fit your furry friend.  Delilah has yet to get a Bark Box, but maybe Santa will get her one.  One can only hope :)

This is our mini Christmas list for our pup.  Hope this helps you to shop for your four legged friend.
